Seminar on practical implementation of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative
   On March, 28th the Municipal Finance Strengthening Initiative (MFSI-II) Roll-out project held one-day seminar “Practical implementation of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Ukraine: opportunities, threats and challenges”.
   The event was attended by Chairwoman of the EITI National Secretariat in Ukraine, Dina Narezhneva, EITI International Board Chairman, Director of the Democratic Practice Program Initiative of the International Renaissance Foundation, Oleksiy Orlovsky, President of the DiXi Group think tank, Olena Pavlenko,  Program Manager of the DiXi Group think tank, Roman Nitsovych, Coordinator of EnergoTransparentnist Association, Vladyslav Deineko, EITI Ukraine Communications Manager, Svitlana Mizina (GIZ Ukraine), as well as representatives of nongovernmental organizations, including the subgrantees of the MFSI-II Project engaged to assist in implementing the component of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative in Ukraine.Participants were also informed about the results of the Global Conference on EITI in Lima, learned about the work plan for 2016 of the National Secretariat of EITI and got acquainted with the project of the Law of Ukraine "On information disclosure in the extractive industries".
   During the seminar, the participants discussed activities of the MFSI-II Project subgrantee NGOs and coordination of actions of all the stakeholders in this process. One of the event's objectives involved coordination of activities of the subgrantees with the EITI's global policies. Among other things, facilitation in establishing a dialog between the public, local authorities, and companies in the extractive industries was considered.
   The knowledge from the seminar will allow NGOs to effectively influence local authorities and mining companies in conducting measures aimed at reducing negative impact of the mining activity in the regions.
