Training in Practical Aspects of Working with Citizens’ Projects Delivered in Pervomaisk

A training-of-trainers workshop Preparing Participatory Budgeting Projects in the City of Pervomaisk was held in Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv oblast, on June 8. The workshop was attended by representatives of the Participatory Budgeting Working Group, staff of the Pervomaisk City Council, media professionals, and residents of Pervomaisk.

At the beginning of the event, a Certified Trainer Ivan Shkurat familiarized the participants with theoretical principles of implementation of participatory budgeting, by explaining, among other things, the key concepts of participatory budgeting, general requirements to and restrictions on the content of citizens’ projects, and registration of such projects.

Participants of the master class Structure of Project Application and Its Completion learned about the practical aspects of preparation of citizens’ projects, and practiced in the drafting and preparing project budgets.

The attendees also took part in an interactive activity Generation of Ideas for Citizens’ Projects. The Brainstorming Method, and trained in the skills of interaction between the public and local government in the course of citizens’ project submission and processing.

At the end of the event, the most active participants of the training workshop Preparing Participatory Budgeting Projects in the City of Pervomaisk were awarded certificate of local trainers.

The training was delivered as part of the Municipal Finance Strengthening Initiative (MFSI-II) Roll-out Project with regard to providing assistance for implementation of participatory budgeting in Ukrainian cities under the component Strengthening the Practices of Citizen Engagement in the Budget Process at the Local Level in Ukraine. The project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Institute for Budgetary and Socio-Economic Research (IBSER). The Citizens’ Project electronic system was developed by SocialBoost NGO.
